Parents looking for new activities this school term will be delighted to hear that Gloucestershire Archives is hosting monthly after school clubs for local children.

Taking place virtually on the first Wednesday of every month, the free Passport to the Past sessions invite youngsters on an adventure through time, as they explore local history and fascinating stories from times gone by.

The interactive clubs are ideal for history-loving children aged six to 13, providing an opportunity to engage their brains and learn more about Gloucestershire’s past, while making new friends from across the county.

From have-a-go activities to discovering impressive facts, budding historians will love getting lost in the archives, guided by history experts – and of course, they’re welcome to dress up for the occasion!

Previous sessions have explored Queen Victoria’s Buckingham Palace and the lives of everyone from newspaper reporters to Victorian school children; while in upcoming sessions, kids can find out about toys and games from the past and join a local explorer on his epic Arctic adventure.

With some 12 million documents spanning 900 years, Gloucestershire Archives has designed these events to help local children understand some of the incredible artifacts in its collection – revealing what history can tell us about the world we live in today.

For each session, there’s a downloadable resources pack which brings the archives to life through creative activities and fact files, which can be used away from the live session as well as during.

Those who register for a Passport to the Past event will receive the free resources pack to use in the session, as well as a Zoom link to access the club on the day.
