Gloucester Cathedral is hosting its Stone Carving Festival out on Cathedral Green this summer, with live demonstrations from master stonemasons.

Visitors can see apprentices and master stonemasons in action, chiseling, carving and bringing their creations to life across the weekend.

From gargoyles to graves, stone carving has shaped every corner of Gloucester Cathedral, with visitors encouraged to explore the spectacular space to admire the ancient art.

There's also the chance to take part in 'have a go' sessions on Saturday and Sunday, where people of all ages can try their hand at stone carving themselves.

Taking place across the August bank holiday weekend, the festival's theme is peace and remembrance as a tribute to mark 80 years since VE Day.

The festival is completely free to attend and is supported by Cathedrals Workshop Fellowship and Friends of Gloucester Cathedral but donations are gratefully received – with all proceeds going towards conservation efforts for the cathedral's medieval Cloister.
