Berkeley Castle is opening its famous doors wider than ever before this September 2025, giving exclusive access to some of its rarely seen areas.
The special one-month-only event sees visitors able to explore the historic 12th-century castle in a whole new way, with the chance to tour both King Edward II's cell, rarely seen by the public, and the private Family Chapel – which has never before been opened to visitors.
Available only for the month of September, from Monday 1 until Tuesday 30, visitors can get an insight into how King Edward II spent his final months imprisoned in Berkeley Castle – before his brutal demise by an alleged red hot poker, in 1327.
Property of the Berkeley family, guests can finally access the castle's private Family Chapel, too, and form an exclusive club of people that get to see a piece of preserved British history.
Better still, this proper behind-the-scenes experience comes at no extra cost, as it's included within the standard admission to the castle, so visitors can add it to their itinerary for a day out to remember.
Entry to the castle costs £16 per adult, £8 per child aged three to 16-years-old and £45 for families of two adults and two children.
