Cheltenham's art gallery and museum, The Wilson, is hosting an exciting new exhibition aimed at families this summer 2025, inspired by the town's natural landscape.
Running throughout the summer holidays, 'Play Ground' invites visitors to 'explore, connect and discover Cheltenham's outdoor heritage' through the interactive event.
Inspired by the museum's concurrent 'Common Ground' exhibition, 'Play Ground' has both indoor and outdoor elements celebrating Cheltenham's parks, playrounds and green spaces, encouraging visitors to 'rewild' themselves and embrace shifting landscapes, with something to enjoy whatever the weather.
Visitors can see an immersive textile installation from local artists Centre Half, featuring landscapes of local plants made from naturally dyed fabrics; take part in creative crafts inspired by the natural world; enjoy storytelling sessions brought to life with historical objects and images; go off on a self-guided nature walk; and even take to the water with a mini boating pond experience in celebration of Cheltenham's historic Pittville Park, with boat races, picnics and storytelling.
The playful exhibition is designed to spark curiosity, with repeat visits encouraged across the summer to enjoy everything 'Play Ground' has to offer.
The Wilson's senior curator, Rhia Davenport, said: ''Play Ground' invites us to celebrate the act of play and the profound connection between people and the natural world.'
'Play Ground' is at The Wilson until Sunday 21 September 2025 and entry is free with a suggested donation of £5.
