Tell us about the inspiration for Prosperity Care & Wellbeing.

The inspiration behind Prosperity Care & Wellbeing is a personal story of courage and one people who have searched for care for their loved ones will know all too well.

When our founder’s grandfather, Brendan Macnally, or ‘Bampy’, was diagnosed with dementia, his family experienced first-hand the challenges and complexity of finding the right care. Bampy had a six-foot, heavy-set frame with a larger-than-life personality to match. He radiated kindness, spending his life working as a charity campaigner for good causes in Gloucestershire.

Bampy’s declining memory made him feel disorientated and distressed, leading to anger and outbursts of aggression, but he remained fully mobile. He didn’t belong in a care home; and finding the right support that would give him the quality of life he deserved was nearly impossible. In the last days of his life, his family continued to push for better care.

He is the inspiration behind Prosperity, a care company that provides personalised and tailored care and wellbeing for individuals and their families.

Prosperity has introduced a new elderly care service, what does this entail?

When it comes to caring for a loved one, I know there’s nothing more important than trust, comfort and dignity, with care feeling like an extension of your own family.

Our elderly care support is tailored to each person’s lifestyle, preferences and background, making sure it truly fits their needs. It could be someone lending a helping hand during the day, with personal care, housework and companionship, or providing round-the-clock, specialised care in collaboration with community nursing teams.

Our support workers are unique in the fact they aren’t just carers - they’re highly trained professionals ready to manage complex medical needs, while helping people stay in the homes they love, surrounded by fond memories and familiar comforts.

We champion independence, encouraging the people we support to keep doing what brings them joy, whether that’s dining out, exercising, taking trips, or visiting family.

What would you say are some key things to consider when seeking care for an elderly relative?

I would say think about your loved one's practical and emotional needs in equal measures. We all know the link between mental and physical health and one cannot thrive without the other. Consider how important home comforts, a flexible routine and independence is to your family member. If staying at home raises concerns, think about adaptations, like grab rails or walk-in showers, which can enhance safety and independence.

Cost and continuity are also important. Home care is more flexible and can sometimes be lower cost than a care home, while nursing homes always have medical support on site yet can reduce independence.

Ultimately, the right choice is one that balances safety, quality of life and personal preference, providing compassionate, tailored support that respects your relative’s unique needs and lifestyle.

Of course, care is more than just physical, how do you make sure they’re mentally occupied?

Care in later life shouldn’t deprive people of doing the things they love.

We prioritise all aspects wellbeing and empower the people we support to continue doing the things they love while maintaining their safety. Whether that’s getting out in the community, socialising, exercising or practising their faith, we actively promote independence and help people lead the best quality of life possible.

What are the biggest benefits clients are seeing?

When I chat to the people we support and their families, what stands out most is how much their independence and confidence have grown.

There’s a common misconception that introducing care means losing independence, but in reality, it does the opposite. By easing the pressure on families, care empowers your loved one to live life on their terms, doing the things that matter to them, with support that enhances their freedom rather than restricting it.

This is something you’re passionate about, is there anything personally that influenced you to bring this to life?

I lost my mum last year and she needed support that honoured her independence and championed her abilities for as long as possible. Becoming a carer for a family member can turn your world upside down, leaving you unsure where to turn.

Working at Prosperity, I see outstanding care in action every day and I’m passionate about helping others find the right support for the most precious people in their lives. Because everyone deserves care that is as unique as they are.
