One of the UK’s biggest supermarket chains, Aldi, is extending its Gloucestershire network with a new store confirmed for Bishop's Cleeve – located next to the A435 and Grange development.

The announcement came from Tewkesbury Borough Council leader, Richard Stanley, who stated plans had been 'unanimously approved' at the planning committee meeting on Tuesday 19 August 2025, with over 330 letters of support for the proposal received.

Paged to bring a multi-million investment to the local economy, Aldi has secured a site of just under two-acres, with the store itself occupying 1,782 sq m.

The scheme is expected to bring 30 to 40 full- and part-time employment opportunities, paid at an 'industry-leading' rate.

108 car parking spaces will be put in place for shoppers, including six spaces for disabled users, eight parent and child spaces and four bicycle hoops for secure cycle parking, for up to eight bikes.

The site will also have five active electric vehicle charging points, with the infrastructure installed for the provision of an additional 18 spaces in the future.

Designed to complement the neighbouring office and listed building, the site will be developed, using sustainable construction materials and techniques, to provide a fresh, modern, new Aldi discount food store.

Though plans have been given the go ahead, the opening date for Aldi Bishop's Cleeve is yet to be confirmed.
