Developer Persimmon Homes Severn Valley has donated £1,000 to to Adam Harper’s Boxing Clever programme.

A Tewkesbury boxing club run by an English super welterweight champion boxer has been handed £1,000 from Persimmon Homes Severn Valley.

The builder behind the town’s Fiddington Fields development has given the cash to Adam Harper’s Boxing Clever programme as part of its community champions scheme.

Established in 2021, the year after Adam’s final fight, the initiative sees children, from a variety of backgrounds, get the chance to hone their boxing skills.

Around 50 young people from Tewkesbury train with Adam each week. The sessions are free to ensure cost is not a barrier for participation.

Persimmon’s donation will go towards new equipment for its fledgling talent.

Adam said: 'Boxing is not just a sport but a vehicle to prevent anti-social behaviour, improve mental and physical health and give young people some direction in life.

'That’s why I started Boxing Clever and I’m delighted Persimmon can also see the value in supporting this important venture for the benefit of so many young people in Tewkesbury.

'This funding will help us continue to do what we do and maintain the no-cost element for this opportunity for those who use the club which, for some, provides a chance to turn their life around.'

Persimmon recently released the second phase homes at Fiddington Fields in Tewkesbury, featuring two, three and four-bedroom homes.

The developer donates to good causes each year as part of its community champions programme. Recent recipients include Tewkesbury Food Bank, Tewkesbury Town Colts FC and the Vale Wildlife Hospital and Rehabilitation Centre in Beckford.

Persimmon Homes Severn Valley sales director, Carly Spear, said: 'Our community champions programme is all about supporting initiatives that make a difference in people’s lives and provide a huge benefit for people in the local area.

'This is not just because it will be great for our customers but the future residents on the sites we build as well as those who already live in the community.

'Adam’s done a great job in establishing Boxing Clever and knowing it has helped hundreds of young people in its short time of operating gives us confidence that this donation will go a long way in maintaining this great offer for local kids.'
