Volunteers from Sue Ryder's Gloucestershire Christmas treecycling scheme have helped to raised over £40,000 by collecting Christmas trees this January 2026.

Sue Ryder – the national charity which runs Gloucestershire's only in-patient palliative care unit, Leckhampton Court Hospice – is celebrating Gloucestershire's 'treemendous' generosity this January 2026.

Volunteers from the charity and local businesses collected 1,969 Christmas trees from front doors, driveways and gardens, in exchange for a donation, through its Gloucestershire treecycling scheme – raising a grand total of £43,271.

All of the Christmas trees collected locally are being put to use on the hospice grounds, turning them into biomass to create green energy.

Alongside providing an eco-friendly way to easily dispose of real Christmas trees, the donations will go towards funding the important support Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice provides to people at the end of their life and their families, so nobody has to die, or grieve, alone.

Community fundraising manager at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, Alysia Cameron-Price, said: 'We want to say an enormous thank you to everyone who signed up and helped our Christmas Treecycling scheme flourish.

'By choosing to recycle your real tree with an optional donation to Sue Ryder, your Christmas tree has become the gift of expert care, advice and compassion for those living with serious illness, death and grief. Your participation helps us be there for more people during the most challenging times of their lives.

'The success of the Sue Ryder Christmas Treecycling scheme relies entirely on the power of volunteers. Thank you to all the businesses and groups who helped with the collections: Greenway Tree Care, JustHelping, JB Event Hire and supported by Hacklings, SDL Solutions, Cotteswold Dairy, Hacklings, A&E Fire, Workplace Interiors, Kilbury Construction, Hillside Delivery, Grundon, NG Bailey and Harleywood Haulage.

'More than 70 volunteers offered their time to support the collections, making this incredible fundraising achievement possible.'

Sue Ryder supports thousands of families across the country each year, through palliative care at the Leckhampton Court hospice; and in-person and online bereavement support, including its new Grief Kind Spaces.
