This summer 2025, a trail of 32 lion sculptures and 54 little lion cubs will roar onto the streets of Cheltenham and Gloucester.

But one will be different from the rest – because it's knitted!

Tesco Quedgeley Knit and Natter Group has knitted and crocheted a lion cub which will feature in Lions at Large – The Pride of Gloucestershire Trail which goes live from Friday 11 July to Sunday 14 September 2025.

Each lion sculpture in the trail is unique with designs from local and national artists to celebrate Gloucestershire’s rich history, culture and diversity.

While cute cubs are getting a splash of colour from schools and community groups.

Thanks to Cheltenham BID and Gloucester BID, they'll all be on display in Cheltenham town centre and Gloucester city centre, as well as in parks and open spaces at a mix of stunning landmarks and interesting everyday locations.

Families will be able to follow the trail of the pride of lions discovering the variety of vibrant colours and surprising designs along the way.

Sponsored by a host of Gloucestershire businesses, the lions are helping to raise funds for new cancer care facilities in Cheltenham with digital consulting rooms, state-of-the-art research facilities, as well as a therapeutic outside space.

Once the trail is over the large lions will be auctioned to further support Cheltenham and Gloucester Hospitals Charity’s The Big Space Cancer Appeal and the little Lions will return to the school and community groups which created them.
