Phone box library, food bank, or even art installation – could your community group transform one of Stroud's disused phone boxes?

Stroud Town Council is on the hunt for community groups who would be up for the challenge of transforming two of the town's disused phone boxes.

There are three BT phone boxes located on the corner of Kendrick Street and Russell Street in Stroud town centre which Stroud Town Council are set to purchase.

One of them will remain in service as a phone box, with the council planning to find a partner organisation turn the other two into quirky community spaces.

The council will arrange for the initial cleaning of the phone boxes, before handing them over to the selected group to kit out and maintain going forward.

Disused phone boxes across the county are used as book swaps, plant exchanges, food banks and even art installations, with all ideas considered as long as they serve the community well.

Councillor Liz Hillary said: 'I’ve always had a soft spot for these old phone boxes and it would be great to see a local community group take one on and find a fresh, creative use for it.'

Any community groups interested in taking on one of the phone boxes are encouraged to get in touch with Stroud Town Council by emailing council@stroudtown.gov.uk.
