Gloucester Cathedral has reopened its iconic tower, thanks to the installation of a brand-new roof deck, allowing visitors access to its unique view point.

Those with a head for heights can climb the tower's 269 steps to enjoy panoramic views of Gloucester, the Severn Valley and even the Malvern Hills.

On the way up, visitors can peek inside behind-the-scenes spaces of the cathedral, including the ringing chamber and the bell chamber to see ‘Great Peter’ the only medieval bell of its size still in use in England.

Visitor welcome manager at Gloucester Cathedral, Hazel Tanner, said: 'We’re thrilled to reopen the cathedral tower for tours again just in time for the busy summer season.

'It’s one of the most special places in Gloucester, offering breathtaking views of the beautiful city.

'We wait to welcome visitors back to the top.'

Tours are led by expert guides and are available to book online, with additional summer dates set to be released soon.

Tickets cost £12 for adults and £6 for children.
