Gloucestershire residents have the chance to see Luke Jerram's internationally acclaimed 'Museum of the Moon' sculpture in the county once again, as the awe-inspiring, seven-metre replica of the moon comes to Tewkesbury Abbey this October 2025.
Returning to Gloucestershire having toured the world, the 'Museum of the Moon' installation, created by UK artist Luke Jerram, comes to the Abbey from 16 October to 4 November 2025, inviting attendees to take part in an extensive three-week programme of events.
Suspended beneath the Abbey’s soaring medieval nave, the internally lit lunar sculpture – featuring detailed NASA imagery – creates a breathtaking and contemplative experience, enhanced by a tranquil, surround-sound composition by BAFTA-winning composer Dan Jones.
Accompanying the installation, the programme encourages audiences of all ages to explore the Abbey in imaginative new ways — from concerts and theatre to wellness sessions and children's workshops.
Highlights include a VIP private viewing; illuminated viewings, including dedicated sensory-friendly sessions; a specially curated performance by Wise & Wayward Theatre that celebrates the Moon’s magic in Shakespeare’s works; and a half-term children's programme, with free events including a kid's space trail and magical story time under the moon.
Focusing on wellness, experience yoga under the moon; along with live concerts spanning 'Dark Side of the Moon' by Everything Under the Sun, Hans Zimmer and film favourites by The Illuminated Orchestra and 'The Planets' by Holst, performed by The Fulltone Orchestra.
And take part in a joyful afternoon of live music, dancing and community spirit, during the tea dance, whilst enjoying a splendid high tea.
Plus, worship will remain at the heart of the Abbey’s life
throughout the installation, with specially themed services inviting prayer and
reflection under the moon.
Reverand Canon Nick Davies, vicar of Tewkesbury Abbey, said: 'This is not just an installation — it’s an invitation.
'An invitation to reflect, rejoice and reconnect beneath the quiet beauty of the moon in one of Britain’s most atmospheric sacred spaces.'
Illuminated viewings cost £6 per adult; £4 per child; and £18 for a family ticket.
