A Cheltenham-based chunky knitter is having her work featured in Channel 4's new craft competition series The Game of Wool, hosted by Olympic diver and knitting star Tom Daley, this November 2025.
For the past eight years, Courtney Love has been running her knitting business, The Chunky Needle, right here in Gloucestershire, creating oversized woolly designs that have caught the eye of craft lovers across the country – including Channel 4 producers.
The Game of Wool production team were so impressed with her distinctive chunky knits that they reached out to Courtney in early 2024 to request to feature them in the show's debut series, with Courtney loaning several samples from her collection.
Speaking about the opportunity, Courtney said: 'It means that my perseverance, consistency and determination has been acknowledged and that The Chunky Needle has organically grown into a brand worthy of national television.
'I am immensely proud of my little business and to have my pieces used in the production of The Game of Wool means all my hard work is paying off.
'What I hope to achieve is greater reach and exposure for my craft and the work I do in hopes that my brand will continue to grow for years to come and reach new audiences that may not have seen my unique makes.
'I lead popular arm knitting workshops all over the country teaching the chunky knitting craft to complete beginners, so I’d love to see more people attending my workshops and enjoying the social and mental health benefits that come from craft and knitting.'
Hosted by Tom Daley, The Game of Wool sees ten talented amateur knitters from across the UK compete for the title of Britain's Best Knitter.
Contestants will be judged by renowned knitting designers, Di Gilpin and Sheila Greenwall, both known for their work with top fashion brands including Chanel, Vivienne Westwood, Paul Smith and Nike.
The first series of The Game of Wool starts Sunday 2 November 2025 at 8pm on Channel 4.
