Considering fostering in 2026? You could potentially welcome your first placement within the next 12 months.

January is a month synonymous with fresh starts, new goals and turning the page on the year ahead. And it's also a great time to consider offering stability, care and hope to a child through fostering.

Gloucestershire County Council is calling compassionate adults to explore the rewarding world of fostering and a make a difference to children's lives across the county this year, giving you the chance to complete training, gain approval and potentially welcome your first foster child within the next 12 months.

Foster carers in Gloucestershire receive full support, training and financial allowances.

From dedicated social workers and around-the-clock helplines to local peer networks and skill-building coursers, carers are never alone on their journey.

The council offers different types of fostering to suit the needs of each child and the availability and strengths of each foster carer. From long term care to short breaks, supporting teenagers, babies or keeping brothers and sisters together, foster carers can find a type of fostering that fits with their home and life.

Generous, age-related allowances are paid to cover essentials such as food, clothing, school items and transport for the child in your care, as well as competitive payments which recognise your skills and commitment as a foster carer.

And watching a child grow, achieve milestones and succeed under your care can be life-changing, too.

Sourcing local foster carers is essential – children often thrive best when connected to their roots.

By choosing to foster locally, you're not just opening your home but giving a child the chance to stay around close friends, near family members, recognisable communities and at their current school – perhaps with a teacher they like and trust – and a chance to flourish.
