Gloucestershire centre of excellence for construction training, AccXel, has been rated 'Outstanding' by Ofsted as a subcontractor for The JCB Academy.
The pioneering learning centre, co-funded by Cinderford-based KW Bell Group and the UK government, achieved the highest possible outcome in all areas for its JCB Academy courses, in an Ofsted inspection completed in June 2025.
Sponsored by construction giant JCB, The JCB Academy provides its construction apprenticeships exclusively through AccXel, along with engineering apprenticeships from its Staffordshire base.
It achieved the 'Outstanding' rating for its provision in both sectors, with inspectors praising its 'specialised, targeted training from industry experts using industry-standard equipment', also noting how apprentices are encouraged to 'strive for excellence' by their tutors, often exceeding their expected progress.
AccXel currently runs four apprenticeship courses with The JCB Academy – Level 2 groundworks, bricklaying and JCB plant operations; and Level 3 construction support technician.
Having first opened its doors for learners in 2022, AccXel leadership described the rating as 'a huge milestone' for the centre.
Principal and managing director, Natalie King, said: ‘This Ofsted Outstanding recognition as a subcontractor of JCB Academy is a powerful recognition of the passion, dedication and excellence that define our team.
'It reflects not only the quality of our provision, but also the deep value we place on our incredible staff, learners, employers and partners, whose commitment and collaboration make our shared vision a reality every day.’
In October 2024, AccXel was admitted to the Apprenticeship and Provider Assessment Register (APAR) as a prime provider in its own right.
It will be Ofsted monitored within the next 12 months, receiving inspections as AccXel thereafter.
As a prime provider, the school will deliver a range of new apprenticeships, from Level 2 through to Level 4, from September 2025.
