Gloucestershire charity launches new youth worker apprenticeship to support vulnerable young people

With funding cuts to youth services making it more difficult to recruit qualified youth workers, Young Gloucestershire is launching a brand-new apprenticeship to help people kickstart their careers in the sector — and provide invaluable support for vulnerable young people in Gloucestershire.

Young Gloucestershire, a local charity which supports young people to overcome challenges they may be facing, has launched a new youth apprenticeship.

Youth work charity Young Gloucestershire supports thousands of children and young people every year, with a dedicated team of youth workers, counsellors and mentors to help them overcome challenges and take control of their futures

But with significant funding cuts made to youth services over the last 10 years, there are now fewer education providers offering professional youth workers and a lack of qualified youth work professionals in the sector.

To combat this, Young Gloucestershire is launching a Level 3 Youth Worker apprenticeship for people who are passionate about supporting vulnerable young people in the county.

This brand-new opportunity combines on-the-job training with nationally recognised qualifications, giving apprentices hands-on experience in delivering group activities and providing one-to-one support to help young people in Gloucestershire to overcome barriers and make positive life decisions.

Learn from the team of experienced youth workers at Young Gloucestershire's Gloucester HQ and make a meaningful difference to people's lives, with responsibilities including mentoring, safeguarding and promoting youth voices in decision making.

The Level 3 Youth Work apprenticeship also offers the opportunity to gain experience in providing practical support for young people with all areas of their mental health.

As a charity, Young Gloucestershire provides tailored support for 14 to 25-year-olds facing mental health concerns, including low mood, social isolation, anxiety, depression, suicide ideation and self-harm.

From giving practical and emotional support to young people who are beginning to experience mental health challenges, to combining youth work and counselling for those facing moderate mental health concerns, Young Gloucestershire also works in partnership with the NHS to offer the right level of support for individuals with complex mental health.

Previous experience is not essential for the role, but candidates should be willing to complete the Level 3 qualification and work towards attaining maths and English GCSEs alongside their apprenticeship if these haven't already been achieved.

Prospective apprentices should also be empathetic and eager to learn, with a strong interest in youth work and community engagement.
