A new family activity trail is launching in the Forest of Dean this summer, encouraging children and their families to get outside and boost their wellbeing with a daily dose of nature.

Forestry England — which manages some of the Forest of Dean's most popular visitor sites — is joining forces with global conservation organisation WWF to bring the new Feel Good Forest Trails to 17 locations across the country, including Beechenhurst.

Opening on Thursday 10 July 2025, right before the summer holidays starts, the trail invites families to connect with nature through fun and reflective forest-themed activities, best suited for children aged six to 12.

Explore Beechenhurst's enchanting pathways and discover how trees and forests around the world play an important part in keeping our planet healthy, from the ancient Forest of Dean to the tropics of the Amazon rainforest.

The new Feel Good Forest Trails are part of WWF's Prescription for Nature campaign, after research commissioned by the organisation last year revealed that 80 per cent of the public wish they and their family spent less time on screens and more time in nature.

Designed to help families feel happy, calm and build deeper connections with the natural world, the trails give children the opportunity to create happy memories in nature and develop a passion for protecting forest ecosystems from a young age.

More Feel Good Forest Trails will be added throughout the year but for now, the Beechenhurst trail is the only one in Gloucestershire.
