This April 2023, Perrygrove Railway in the Forest of Dean is welcoming the UK's newest steam engine to its collection.

Gloucestershire train enthusiasts are in for a treat, as a brand-new steam locomotive is being launched at Perrygrove Railway in the Forest of Dean this April 2023.

The specially-commissioned train, which is currently being built by industry expert NBR Engineering in Darlington, will become the seventh member of Perrygrove’s collection of locomotives, with a naming ceremony for invited guests on Friday 28 April 2023 before the engine is officially revealed to the public at the Steam Gala from Saturday 29 April to Monday 1 May 2023.

Visitors to the event can take a ride on a carriage pulled by the new engine, with the full roster of locomotives working across the weekend and the chance to see heritage traction engines, rock crushers and saw benches in action, too.

Perrygrove Railway Adventure, which is located near Coleford, began life as a small family-run farm, with the current train station formerly being used as a barn house. Still a family-owned business, the site now has a 3/4 train track running through the woods and meadows, with friendly animals to meet, a treetop adventure and plenty of woodland picnic spots, making it an ideal family day out in the Forest of Dean.

Admission to the Steam Gala is priced the same as standard admission and includes unlimited train rides, with tickets costing £10 for adults, £8 for children and £1 for well-behaved dogs.
