Gloucestershire's hospitality sector continues to fluctuate, with plenty of new openings cropping up across the county each month.
But the ongoing cost of living crisis is still wreaking havoc on businesses, too, evidenced in another closure in Cheltenham — and this time it's The Ox.
After 10 years of business in the town, the steakhouse found on Cambray Place announces its permanent closure in September 2025, with a statement crediting the closure to the end of its lease 'combined with the challenging economic climate.'
Known for its hearty menu featuring classic main dishes alongside prime steak cuts and small plates, The Ox has prided itself on using seasonal local produce to craft its dishes – and was particularly popular for its Sunday roasts.
In a statement now found on its Cheltenham website, The Ox team said: 'The Ox Cheltenham has been more than just a restaurant.
'It has been a place where friends and families gathered, where memories were made and where our team poured their passion and dedication into every service.
'We are immensely proud of what we've built together and deeply grateful for the incredible support of our loyal customers and the Cheltenham community throughout this journey.'
The Ox's sister restaurant in Bristol will remain open, with gift vouchers purchased for its Cheltenham location being honoured.
