After nearly a year of delays, Gloucestershire's first Costco is officially on its way, with construction finally getting started at the site on Eastern Avenue in Gloucester this November 2025.
Gloucester City Council approved plans for the city's new Costco back in December 2024, with the former Interbrew site already secured and empty.
The multi-million-pound project is being delivered by Glencar Construction and will comprise of a huge 13,000 sq m store, with parking for over 600 cars and a petrol station.
The American-owned brand anticipates the new store will create up to 250 jobs over the next five years, with facilities also including an in-house bakery, butchers, opticians, hearing centre and cafe.
Costco is a membership-based store, with people needing to be over 18 and a current or retired employee of industries such as banking, local government, emergency services, education, post office, airlines, armed forces, health services and insurance, to qualify for the scheme. Online subscriptions for internet-only shopping will be available, too.
While head office hasn't released any details on timings or potential opening dates, construction is expected to continue throughout 2026.
