A popular independent restaurant and bottleshop in Gloucestershire has been crowned one of The Good Food Guide’s 100 best local restaurants of 2025.
Post, located in the historic riverside village of Newnham-on-Severn, opened just nine months ago in the former Post Office.
Since then, it has become one of the UK’s most talked about rural dining destinations.
The announcement follows another major accolade last month, when Post was also named as one of The Good Food Guide’s top 19 wine bars and bottleshops in Britain.
Founded by husband-and-wife team Ben Thompson and Florence de Maré, with chef patron Fred Page leading the kitchen, Post has earned a reputation for ingredient-led small plates, a thoughtful and evolving wine list as well as warm, personal hospitality.
Much of the produce comes from the couple’s nearby smallholding and every element, from the cordial in a seasonal cocktail to the freshly baked olive oil-spelt rolls, is made in-house.
The Good Food Guide praised Post’s 'refined small plates fashioned from superior local produce' as well as its 'delightfully warm, personal service' and interiors, which the guide says combines to reflect the establishment’s commitment to quality.
Florence said: 'We are absolutely over the moon to be included in the 100 Best Local Restaurants of 2025.

Post continues to attract visitors from across the region and beyond, riding the wave of Newnham-on-Severn’s growing reputation, recently recognised by The Times as one of the coolest places to move to in 2025.
Two other Gloucestershire restaurants that also made the best local restaurants of 2025 list include New Wave Brasserie in Lechlade and Juliet in Stroud.
