The refurbished Royal Court care home in Cheltenham reopens Friday 1 August 2025.

One of Lilian Faithfull Care's longest-serving care homes is getting a makeover this summer 2025, with a refurbishment that endeavours to set a new benchmark for dementia care in the county.

Royal Court in Cheltenham has undergone a transformation based on a progressive model that places dignity, compassion and purposeful living at the heart of everyday life – with the newly refurbished facility opening on Friday 1 August 2025.

With a strong emphasis on holistic wellbeing, a key element of the refurbishment is the creation of small, family-style communities for just six to seven residents, supported by a dedicated team providing excellent continuity of care, with these small groups helping to foster a sense of familiarity and comfort.

Each household includes cosy bedrooms, shared kitchens, welcoming communal spaces and access to tranquil garden areas.

Staffed by a Cura team made up of care professionals that are fully trained in dementia support and led by a dedicated dementia lead specialist, Royal Court ensures personalised, compassionate care that nurtures both mental and physical wellbeing for all residents.

Also among the new features is a purpose-built sensory space offering soft lighting, calming music and comfortable furnishings to promote relaxation.

Royal Court is actively participating in the Sage Project, a pioneering research initiative in partnership with Bristol University that explores the therapeutic benefits of natural sounds for people living with dementia, too.

Alongside the aesthetic transformation, the home offers an enriching calendar of activities that includes visits from young volunteers at the nearby Pate's Grammar School; therapy dog sessions; musical therapy with Mind Song; gardening groups; and off-site trips on the Lilian Faithfull Care bus.

Residents can also benefit from access to physiotherapy, hairdressing and chiropody services, ensuring they feel supported in every aspect of their health and wellbeing.

Families are always welcomed as key partners in the care journey of their loved ones and are encouraged to stay closely involved to preserve cherished connections.
