Renishaw appoints its new non-executive director, Camille Deer.

Leading Gloucestershire engineering firm Renishaw names Camille Deer as its new non-executive director.

The Cambridge graduate comes to the firm with a background in intellectual property and risk management. She is also the granddaughter of Renishaw co-founder, John Deer, who created the company in 1973 alongside the late Sir David McMurty – who passed in December 2024.

Renishaw has firm roots in Gloucestershire, with five sites established across the county in Wotton-under-Edge, Kingswood, Stonehouse and Woodchester, expanding to what is now a global engineering and manufacturing giant.

It was announced back in January 2021 that the co-founders were looking to sell their majority stake in the company, but the sale was called off just a few months later in July. Sir David McMurty resigned as executive chairman in July 2024, but remained a non-executive director up until his death.

Now, his friend and business partner's granddaughter is stepping in to fill his shoes. She joins Richard McMurty – Sir David's son, who was appointed July 2024 – as a new non-executive director.

Interim non-executive chair, Sir David Grant, said of Camille's appointment: 'I am confident that her appointment will prove to be invaluable in helping to guide the strategic direction of the business, whilst demonstrating the continued commitment of the founding families to the future of Renishaw.'

The company continues its search to secure a permanent non-executive chair and an additional non-executive director to join its board.
