The waves are back! The only inland surfing venue in the south west, The Wave reopens on Tuesday 1 July after a sudden but brief closure at the end of June 2025.

Soon after the waves were turned off, it was announced on Friday 27 June that the site had been sold to new owners by administrators, under the entity Surf Bristol Limited, with Boardmasters Festival founder Julian Topham being asked to step into the CEO role — but plans to open the site on Saturday 28 June proved impossible.

Julian said: 'I have worked in the surf industry for [over] 25 years and in my view The Wave is an extremely important part of the UK surf community.

'I want to ensure it stays that way, and thrives, for the long term.'

Though it seemed the future of the venue was still uncertain over the weekend, with its 200-strong team of staff left with cancelled bookings, organisers then took to Instagram on Monday 30 June to announce the good news.

The caption read: 'Our incredible Wavemaker team has pulled together as always and been working flat out to get everything back up and running.

'We want to thank all our wonderful community for the outpouring of love and support over the last days. It means so much.'

The reopening is good news not just for amateur surfers, but for the pros too, as the English Para Surfing Open competition that's set to take place on Wednesday 2 and Thursday 3 July 2025 can go ahead as normal.

Opening its doors at 6.30am on Tuesday 1 July 2025, The Wave's website is back up and running, but bookings have been paused to allow the team to catch up after the disruption.
