New hotel HYLL has launched in Charingworth, just outside Chipping Campden, this September 2025.
Independently owned by Madfabulous Hotels, founded by Sarah Ramsbottom and Paul Baker, it has transformed former 14th-century Charingworth Manor into a modern masterpiece.
The Grade II-listed main house has been extended to include adjoining former outbuildings to create a courtyard and the space has been filled with books, sculptures and artwork.
SoGlos swings by to take in the remarkable transformation.
What's the vibe at HYLL?
Calm, quiet and reflective, HYLL exudes relaxed luxury and has created a warm welcoming space that invites guests to cosy up and hunker down.
There's no reception desk, so arriving feels a little like wandering into someone's house. Friendly staff quickly make you feel at home. They also hand over an inspiring booklet full of tips on how to embrace the fine art of doing nothing.
Inside the manor, Manchester-based design studio, YOUTH, has created interiors that combine English character with modern warmth, with Cotswold stone, aged metals and weathered timber featuring throughout the hotel. There's also lots of intriguing artwork to capture the imagination.
What are HYLL's bedrooms like?
The 26 bedrooms range from cosy courtyard spaces to manor house abodes with plenty of space to stretch out. They all have well-stocked pantries and Grind coffee machines to enjoy a brew in rustic, locally-made ceramics.
Elegant, minimalist bathrooms are stocked with Verden toiletries.
And the star of the show is unquestionably the supremely comfy beds, which have been sourced from Naturalmat. Made from organic cotton and natural materials, snuggling under the duvet feels like cosying up in a cloud.
What is the restaurant like at HYLL?
The restaurant is sleek and stylish with a menu that celebrates local produce, as well as fine ingredients from across the UK. Led by chef Mark Coleman, the afternoon menu includes toasties, lamb sweetbreads, omelettes and sarnies.
In the evening, guests can enjoy lamb, wood-fired octopus, roast cod and Hereford ribeye steak. Snacks are available throughout the day and night.
Breakfast is served in the restaurant with Mark's Bakery serving up flaky pastries and sourdough alongside hearty English breakfasts.
How cosy are the lounge spaces at HYLL?
The fact there's not just one lounge, but three, shows how seriously HYLL takes time to relax and unwind.
In the snug there's a record player with plenty of vinyls to browse and in one lounge a table is set up for a game of marble solitaire.
A third lounge is stocked with colourful bookshelves packed full of new books from Stow-on-the-Wold bookshop Borzoi Bookshop. And there are plenty of board games to play, too.
What are HYLL's hotel grounds like?
The hotel sits within 60 acres of meadow, woodland and hills and is home to sculptures to admire. The huge balancing stones sculpture on the driveway certainly delivers the wow-factor on arrival.
Guests are encouraged to explore the hotel estate's fields and woodlands. In the hotel bootroom there are Private White VC jackets to borrow for walking, along with Le Chameau wellies to wander in.
What's the SoGlos verdict?
HYLL doesn't just look good, it provides plenty of food for thought with its focus on doing nothing and taking time to relax and unwind.
And the new opening isn't the end of the story, in 2026 HYLL is adding a new events barn for weddings, performances and private gatherings. Designed by Tim Groom Architects and built from local stone and timber, the barn will seat 150 with panoramic views of the surrounding landscape. A supper club series is also in the pipeline to feature interesting authors and artists.
With room rates starting from £250 for bed and breakfast, it's a considered stay that infuses guests with an air of ease that lingers long after a visit.
