Gloucester has been awarded a prestigious Purple Flag award for being a great night out this May 2025 – in no small part thanks to Gloucester Food Dock.
The foodie destination, which is home to 12 tasty businesses including Roots + Seeds, Daikoku Ramen, Wholly Gelato, Hetty's Place, Elote, Kinn Kinn, and Scandi Coffee Pod, impressed this year's judges, who were 'wowed' by the regeneration taking place across the city.
As well as the vibrant Food Dock giving diners a taste of the globe, judges highlighted multi-million-pound development, The Forum – with the soon-to-open Hotel Indigo with a restaurant, rooftop cocktail bar and top notch conference facilities – as a 'must-see'.
Awarded by the Association of Town and City Management, the purple flag is awarded to night-time destinations around the world providing a diverse mix of dining, entertainment and culture – as well as offering a safe, welcoming night out – and is a counterpart to the Green Flag for parks and Blue Flag for beaches.
Officers from Gloucester City Council, Gloucester BID, Gloucestershire Constabulary, Gloucester City Safe, Gloucester LVA and Ubico all contributed to Gloucester’s application this year.
Councillor Rebecca Trimnell, cabinet member for community engagement at Gloucester City Council, said: 'I am very proud that once again our city has rightly impressed the judges.
'Destinations like the Food Dock, the Forum and the growing list of businesses that are flocking to our city thanks to these developments are helping to reinvigorate both our night-time and our daytime economy and putting Gloucester back on the map.'
Sarah Mansfield, co-founder of Gloucester Food Dock, added: 'This is an exciting award. A growing and well-managed evening economy in Gloucester is hugely important for projects such as the Food Dock.
'The docks provide a wonderful and safe environment for everyone to enjoy and this award is a welcome recognition of this achievement.'
