The long-awaited Hotel Indigo at Gloucester's The Forum is officially opening its doors this March 2026.
The 129-room hotel from IHG Hotels & Resorts sits at the heart of the £107 million Forum development and will be home to the first rooftop bar in Gloucester – set to be named Crimson Spire – providing impressive panoramic views of the city skyline and the iconic Gloucester Cathedral.
It's also set to have an all-day bistro and bar called West Window; a cafe called Terraé; and a unique event space within the development's spectacular glass and steel 'skybridge'.
Taking inspiration from Gloucester's rich history and vibrant present, Hotel Indigo says it will 'immerse guests in the architecture, traditions and culture of the city through three distinct design themes' which take inspiration from Roman mosaics, pottery and figurines discovered during the archaeological phases of the King's Quarter development; the 13th century White Friars religious house found directly underneath the development; and Beatrix Potter's beloved story The House of the Tailor of Gloucester – with nods to the historic docks and Gloucester's festival scene, too.
The new hotel brings luxury accommodation to the city centre for the first time, joining IHG's stable of hotels in major global cities like London, Berlin, Hong Kong and New York – and has already received over 1,000 bookings before the doors are even open.
Gloucester City Council leader, Jeremy Hilton, said: 'I’m delighted that Hotel Indigo has taken inspiration from our unique and beautiful city which rightly deserves to be celebrated.
'This will be our first luxury hotel and it will be a game changer in terms of what we can offer the thousands of visitors who come to Gloucester. It will mean that Gloucester is not just a day trip but an overnight destination with a quality hotel right next to transport links. Along with The Forum development, it will attract more people to the city boosting the local economy and providing jobs.
Peter Langly-Smith, managing director of The Forum developer, Reef, added: 'The opening of Hotel Indigo adds a new dimension to The Forum, creating a real destination that showcases Gloucester’s identity. With the hotel, its rooftop bar and event space, alongside the impressive living wall, public open space and residential apartments, The Forum continues to transform the city centre.'
Hotel Indigo at The Forum officially opens on Tuesday 24 March 2026.
