First look inside: Gloucester Rugby’s new super gym

Gloucester Rugby has not hung around in getting its new Kingsholm training centre fit for purpose – and SoGlos got to take a first look inside.

It only announced its ambitious plans in June 2021, but Gloucester Rugby has been quick to establish its new ‘world class’ gym beside its famous Kingsholm Stadium.

It has taken contractors, including Gloucester’s own EG Carter and Neptune Building Services, together with gym-specialists Sportesse, just a few weeks to complete the initial fit-out of the former SLG building.

Gloucester Rugby has let SoGlos have the first images at its new nerve centre, which will soon be joined by even more facilities, including treatment rooms and offices for its commercial team.

George Skivington, Gloucester Rugby head coach, said: ‘This state-of-the-art facility will fortify Kingsholm as a centre of excellence and double down on our commitment to developing home grown talent.’

Nick Osmond, director of Sportesse, said: ‘This will give Gloucester one of the very best facilities there is. It will allow the club to take training to a whole new level.’

The Somerset-based firm also works with England Rugby, the LTA (Lawn Tennis Association) and the NFL to create some of the world’s best gyms and training facilities.

A synthetic pitch will also be laid at Kingsholm Stadium as part of the development plans.

All of which brings an end to speculation over its future training ground, which began when the club announced in 2019 its long-running and hugely successful arrangements with Hartpury College and University would end in 2021.
