Visitors to Gloucester Cathedral are in for a treat this March 2022, as Luma the giant illuminated snail comes to Cathedral Green.

The eight-metre-long inflatable snail can be seen in the Lady Chapel of Gloucester Cathedral from 5.30pm to 9pm on Friday 4 to Saturday 5 March 2022, with viewing recommended after dark to see her looking her best.

Made entirely from fabric and lit up in a rainbow of colours, Luma is actually a robot, with organisers hoping she ‘reimagines what robots can be for’ – describing her as ‘a joyful and hopeful work which champions both nature and technology.’

The installation is part of the Gloucester Bright Nights programme which brings illuminated artworks to venues all over the city, with Luma available to see on Friday 4 to Saturday 5 March 2022 from 5.30pm to 9pm.

Luma is free to visit and there’s no need to book tickets in advance.
