With queues out the door every day, it’s safe to say that The Sandwich Box on Imperial Square is something of a Cheltenham institution when it comes to filling the tummies of hungry workers.

The award-winning family-run business makes its bread, spanning sourdough loaves, pitta, focaccia and rolls, on-site daily, while its delicious fillings include the likes of coronation chicken and other scrumptious options.

2. Brew & Bake

Independent Bath Road café, Brew & Bake, makes a fine choice for those in need of a lunchtime sandwich fix. With 12-14 flavour combinations on a daily basis, including meat, veggie, vegan and gluten-free choices, there’s plenty to tempt everyone.

Using Hobbs House bread, chutneys from Stroud’s Kitchen Garden, and meat from Bath Road Butchers, roasted on-site, you’re sure to get a quality sarnie. Fillings include goat’s cheese, onion marmalade, roasted red peppers and spinach; cooked ham, mature cheddar with rocket; and butternut, feta and spinach.

3. O'Hara's Coffee House

O’Hara’s Coffee House is tucked away just off Cheltenham High Street and offers plenty of choice for hungry lunchtime diners – with all sandwiches freshly made to order.

Filling options include cheese and chutney; roast beef, horseradish mayo and rocket; mozzarella, sun blush tomato and pesto; and prawn in lemon mayo and black pepper, and there is also a selection of toasted paninis to enjoy.

4. SOHO Coffee

With three outposts in town, there are plenty of opportunities to pick up your sandwich fix at Cheltenham’s SOHO Coffee, which now has branches all over the world.

Its sandwich menu includes the likes of butternut squash and carrot hummus; lemon tuna and watercress; and roast chicken, pesto and avocado, while the hot choices span from a smokey barbecue chicken melt to a tuna and roasted pepper melt. There are also wraps, baguettes and delicious flatbreads to tempt lunchtime visitors.

5. Number 85 Coffee and Kitchen

Located on Hewlett Road, Number 85 Coffee and Kitchen is a family-run deli serving a range of baguettes, sandwiches, and wraps. Indulge with homecooked ham with fresh plum tomato, go for a classic tuna mayo, or enjoy slow cooked pork belly, homemade sweet chilli apple sauce and gem lettuce.

Veggie filling options include roast Mediterranean vegetables; avocado, mixed leaves and basil oil; and egg mayo, while those wanting breakfast on the go can pick up bacon or sausage sandwiches.

6. Farmhouse Deli

Whether you fancy a traditional sandwich or a wrap, Farmhouse Deli’s extensive selection of fillings can be tailored to your food mood. Meat lovers can tuck into roast beef and horseradish, or ham, turkey and mustard mayo, while veggies can enjoy cheddar and red onion marmalade or a classic cheese and tomato.

The deli, located on the High Street, also does mean bacon and sausage sarnies that are ideal if you fancy a breakfast treat on a Friday, or in fact any day of the week!

7. Wolfie's

Located on Bath Road in the centre of town, Wolfie’s has an impressive choice of 100 sandwich fillings, ensuring there’s something for all palates. Choose from traditional options such as ham salad, and brie and cranberry, or go for more adventurous combinations including hoi-sin duck, spring onion and cucumber.

The sandwich bar’s new menu additions feature The Godfather, filled with ham, bacon, pepperoni, salami, Swiss cheese, red onion and mustard mayonnaise; and the Sloppy Ranch, with Cajun chicken, jalapeños, lettuce and tomato.
