Cheltenham's alcohol-free music venue announces opening date

An alcohol-free live music venue is opening in Cheltenham. Dubbed 'The Sober Parrot', the venue will host live music and open late into the night, but no alcohol will be served.

Live music fans from Cheltenham are being asked to consider trying a night out, alcohol free, at one of the town’s newest late-night bars when it opens in this summer.

The Sober Parrot, which will open on Saturday 5 May 2018 says it will be Cheltenham’s first late night entertainment venue with a strictly alcohol-free offer.

Located opposite The Fire Station in St James’ Square, The Sober Parrot will be housed inside the former Number Seven wine bar, and is launching on Saturday 5 May 2018, just in time for the bank holiday weekend.

Jo Williamson, manager of The Sober Parrot, told SoGlos: ‘More and more people are looking for dry venues. It is becoming really popular with young people now. I love being part of something that is open for everyone, it feels so inclusive’.

The venue is the brainchild of The Nelson Trust, which also runs The Hub in Gloucester, a space for people to enjoy entertainment whilst recovering from addictions to drugs and alcohol. It’s been made possible because of funding from Public Health England, Gloucestershire Environmental Trust, Barnwood Trust, Gloucestershire’s Police and Crime Commissioner and Renishaw Charity Committee.

The charity, which is based in Brimscombe, near Stroud, was established in 1985 to help people recover from addiction and re-build their lives.
