A Forest of Dean restaurant has been recognised as one of Britain's best local places to eat for the second year running.
Post in Newnham-on-Severn is the Gloucestershire's only entry in The Good Food Guide's 100 Best Local Restaurants 2026, ranking 91st in this year's newly ranked list celebrating the UK's top independent neighbourhood restaurants.
Now in its 16th year, The Good Food Guide's annual awards celebrate restaurants that combine outstanding cooking, warm hospitality and excellent value in relaxed surroundings, shining a spotlight on independent venues that have become the heart of their local communities.
Post first secured a place in the guide's Top 100 in 2025, less than a year after opening in the village's former Post Office building, making this its second consecutive appearance in the prestigious list.
Founded by Ben Thompson and Florence de Maré, with chef patron Fred Page leading the kitchen, Post has quickly become one of Gloucestershire's most acclaimed restaurants – also winning a prestigious Bib Gourmand recognition from the Michelin Guide inspectors.
Its ever-changing menu champions seasonal ingredients sourced from the Forest of Dean, Wye Valley and surrounding countryside, complemented by a carefully curated selection of wines and relaxed, informal service.
The 2026 edition is the first time The Good Food Guide has ranked all 100 restaurants, with La Locanda in Gisburn, Lancashire, taking the overall number one spot.
Nearer Gloucestershire, Wangs in Bristol was named the south west's highest-ranked restaurant, placing seventh nationally.
