Coal Kitchen says it 'remains committed to its staff, customers and supplier partners, and continues to operate fully as normal', after its management company entered insolvency proceedings.

The team running Coal Kitchen in Gloucester has assured its customers, staff and suppliers that it remains open, amid uncertainty surrounding its future.

The bar and restaurant at Gloucester Quays released a statement last week confirming that it continues to operate 'fully as normal', in response to reports it was set to close.

It comes after its management company, SH Gloucester Quays Limited, entered creditors’ voluntary liquidation on Monday 2 February 2026.

But since then, liquidators of Opus Restructuring LLP have confirmed that the lease of the premises at the Quays, along with its employment contracts, are not held by the management company, but by separate legal entities – which means the bar and restaurant's operation is not impacted.

A statement from Opus LLP explained: 'By way of clarification, at the date of liquidation the company did not hold any property interests. The lease in respect of the restaurant premises is understood to be held by a separate legal entity.

'The company also did not have any employees at the date of liquidation. Employment contracts are understood to be held with another entity'.

In an official statement, Coal Kitchen said: 'Coal Kitchen Gloucester Quays is open and trading as normal, with no disruption to customers, bookings, staff or suppliers.

'No employees have been made redundant and all local suppliers continue to work with the business as usual'.

They added the management company's liquidation follows 'a change in repayment terms required by HMRC, after a previously agreed seven-year time-to-pay arrangement was withdrawn and replaced with a six-month repayment demand which was not financially viable'.

'This is an orderly, director-led process and does not impact the ongoing operation of Coal Kitchen', the statement continued.

'Coal Kitchen remains committed to its staff, customers and supplier partners, and continues to operate fully as normal.'

Opus LLP said joint liquidators, Jack Callow and Mark Boast 'do not have responsibility for, nor control over, the assets, liabilities, contractual arrangements or operations of any other associated or connected entities'.

It says they will investigate the affairs of the company trading as Coal Kitchen Gloucester Quays 'in the ordinary course of the liquidation', including consideration of its trading history, financial position and the circumstances leading up to insolvency.

For now, Coal Kitchen Gloucester Quays remains open and trading.
