Artists' impressions for the new nuclear energy facility at the former Gloucestershire Science and Technology Park in Berkeley have been revealed.

Chiltern Vital Group, which owns the park which previously housed a Magnox nuclear reactor power station, has shared images of its proposed plans for the brownfield site and opened a public consultation.

It wants to create a 'cutting-edge nuclear and clean energy' facility on the 600,000 sq ft site, as part of a 'world-class science and technology park' with research and development, laboratory, manufacturing, office and education facilities for nuclear and clean energy-focused businesses.

Chiltern Vital says that the site would deliver 'a wide range of local and national benefits', including economic benefits for the local community, new jobs, inward investment and help meeting critical climate goals.

A planning application will be submitted to Stroud District Council following the public consultation before redevelopment can begin.

Project manager Gerry Hughes said: 'We are excited to unveil our proposals and seek the public’s feedback. Our vision is to unleash the full power of nuclear and clean energy innovation by creating world-class scientific and research facilities at Berkeley.

'Our plans would deliver significant economic, social and environmental benefits locally and nationally, whilst helping respond to the climate emergency.'

The public consultation will run until Friday 18 July, with a drop-in event taking place from 2.30pm to 7pm on Monday 7 July 2025 at Gloucestershire Science and Technology Park where members of the public can share their feedback on the plans.
