The Forest Economic Partnership, a volunteer-run organisation designed to support and promote economic development in the Forest of Dean, announces the appointment of its new leader.
Nicola Bird, COO of Cinderford-based KW Bell Group and founder and CEO of AccXel Construction School, takes over from outgoing chair Neil Ricketts, bringing with her a 'wealth of experience and a deep-rooted commitment to the Forest of Dean.'
Joining KW Bell 15 years ago as a part-time administrator, Nicola steadily rose through the ranks, taking up her current position as the 56-year-old firm's COO in May 2024. The prominent construction firm reports an annual turnover of £86 million, with the group overseeing a diverse selection of operations including Bell Contracting, Bell Homes, Bell Plant and The Belfry Hotel in Littledean.
Commenting on her appointment at the FEP, she said: 'As a local resident and business owner, the Forest of Dean is a key part of my identity.
'My life’s work has always been rooted in the Forest of Dean; as third generation of KW Bell Group and founder of AccXel Construction School, I have long been a vocal advocate for our unique district. I passionately share the driving values of the Forest Economic Partnership and its Board — the Forest of Dean is a vibrant, thriving district of natural beauty, industry-leading businesses and inspiring communities.
'I believe we have a solid foundation to build on and a real opportunity to take the district to the next level. I would like to thank the FEP Directors for placing their trust in me and I’m excited to get to work with the Board, stakeholders and the wider community to drive growth, champion local talent and ensure the Forest continues to thrive for generations to come.'
Outgoing chair Neil Ricketts, CEO of 720 Group and former CEO of Versarian, added: 'Nicola is a highly regarded member of the business community and I know how much her commitment to the local area drives her, so the FEP is certainly in safe hands.
'I look forward to seeing what next step the FEP takes under her more than capable leadership.'
