Gloucestershire car makers McMurtry Automotive has marked a significant chapter in its decade-long story, with the opening of a new car factory in Wotton-under-Edge which will commerce production of its hyper track car and facilitate the launch of a dedicated technology arm.
Set against the rolling hills of the Cotswolds, the 2,700 square metre factory will be the home of the McMurtry Spéirling PURE, the electric single-seater track car that has captured global attention for its extreme performance and engineering ingenuity.
With more than 5,000 kilometres of prototype testing completed and a suite of more than 22 patents under its belt, the company is now preparing for the first customer deliveries of its £995k hyper track car in summer 2026.

The opening is a milestone for the business founded in 2016 by the late Sir David McMurtry, the visionary engineer and entrepreneur whose legacy continues to be carried forward by his sons Richard and Ben, both board members and early investors in the firm. Richard McMurtry said the new facility and strategic growth initiatives reflect the company’s core principle of questioning convention and letting engineering lead the way.
Alongside limited production of 100 vehicles, McMurtry Automotive has unveiled McMurtry Technology, a new business division designed to leverage and commercialise the intellectual property and expertise developed through its Spéirling programme.
Operating from McMurtry’s original Swinhay House estate, McMurtry Technology will offer specialist services in areas including performance battery systems, electric powertrains, lightweight vehicle construction and vehicle software.
The division already counts high-profile clients and is generating significant revenue, underlining strong global demand for British engineering excellence.
As the company scales up production and broadens its reach, the Wotton-under-Edge site is said to stand as a physical embodiment of McMurtry’s growth.
With production facilities and technology services working in tandem, the future looks poised for further innovation and contribution to both the local Gloucestershire economy and the international automotive sector.
