Joedan, a leading Gloucestershire manufacturer and installer of aluminium windows and doors, is celebrating four decades in business, with a £3 million investment designed to power its next phase of growth.

Founded in 1985 by husband and wife John and Nicky Purcaro at their kitchen table in Cheltenham, Joedan has grown into a £18 million turnover company employing more than 120 people across its head office in Tewkesbury and design centres in Winchester and on the Isle of Wight.

Now, as it turns 40, the family-run firm has its sights set on £35m in annual revenues by 2030.

Plans include new machinery, further investment in its network of design centres and the opening of a second manufacturing facility on the Isle of Wight, with the deal for this development already completed.

‘The business was literally set-up on our kitchen table, so we’ve come a long way since we made that decision in 1985,’ said founder John Purcaro.

'Nicky gave us three rules to follow. Firstly, there was no pressure selling and that has not changed. Secondly, we would never open on bank holidays or at Christmas, as we still believe people deserve to spend time with their families. Finally, and most importantly, the business had to be in the names of our children… that way we knew we wouldn’t fail as I could never see us failing our children!'

He added: ‘These values have stood us in good stead and remain a vital part of the business. We are also committed to moving to the next level and that’s why we’ve just signed off on a £3 million investment plan.’

Named after their children Joseph and Daniella, Joedan designs, manufactures and installs its own ‘Lusso’ aluminium range from a 32,000 sq ft Tewkesbury site, serving residential and commercial clients in education, healthcare and industry. Its ‘Portofino’ UPVC collection is supplied through a decade-long partnership with CO Manufacturing.

Commercial projects account for 60 per cent of turnover, though retail is expanding following a string of acquisitions and a new stake in Eden Windows Doors & Conservatories in Kent and Greater London.

Managing director Joseph Purcaro said: ‘Now the focus is on building for the next generation, and we are looking forward to putting the £3 million expansion plans into action over the coming months.’
