This week's edition of Country Life magazine has been guest edited by none other than Cotswolds resident David Beckham.
In a series of interviews, the world-famous former footballer explains why buying a weekend house in the Cotswolds has given him a sense of peace, along with a deep affection for the countryside.
Chatting to Paula Minchin, he says his rural retreat near Chipping Norton has enhanced his family's wellbeing and is the home where his children feel most relaxed and calm.
In the issue, David also champions his countryside heroes, choosing to highlight founder and owner of The Cotswolds Guy farm shop in Guiting Power, Christopher Davey.
Christopher, who also runs an events catering firm, tells Julie Harding: 'I first began delivering food to David and his family in lockdown and I've been grateful and honoured they continue to enjoy it. He is a great supporter of buying local.'
Godfather of gardening, Alan Titchmarsh, took a trip up to David's 26 acres of land, which once formed part of the Great Tew estate.
In his Country Life interview, Alan reports that David is never happier than when he's at home in the Cotswolds and that he feels lucky to have the space.
When asked why he chose the Cotswolds for his weekend home, David said it's because he considers it one of the most beautiful parts of the countryside – and it's easily accessible from London where the family spends most of their time.
Alan also reveals that Victoria Beckham adores the Cotswolds, too. David tells him: 'She's in love with it. She sleeps longer here. She reads, we go for long walks with the children.'
Assessing the outdoor space, Alan describes the design as having 'an all-pervading sense of order' that creates a 'stylish, friendly, comfortable and welcoming' garden.
He said: 'The Beckhams regard their Cotswold retreat as an important sanctuary in their busy lives and an escape from the demands that international commitments – in both sport and fashion – require of them.'
In his editor's column David adds: 'I miss everything about my garden when I'm not there – it gives me a great sense of calm and contentment. All of our children love to be in the Cotswolds as much as we can when we're not travelling.'
Recognising David's love of nature, his daughter Harper has teamed up with David Austin Roses to launch a new 'Sir David Beckham' white rose that will be revealed at RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2026.
In the magazine, David says: 'What Harper has done for me is incredible. I have planted a circular rose garden so I can grow my rose at our house in the Cotswolds.'
David's edition of the magazine also includes interviews with his pal, director Guy Ritchie, who he credits with giving him his love of the countryside.
Another friend, fellow former footballer Vinnie Jones, is featured, too, with a nod to a walking stick he made for David to use on country walks.
Over the years Country Life has been guest edited by The King and Queen – and this week's edition also includes a 'novel note' from the late Jilly Cooper from her final novel Tackle! which was inspired by Forest Green Rovers FC.
