The Tavern will be welcoming punters back to the pub in time for Cheltenham Festival celebrations.

The Tavern is reopening on Friday 6 March 2026 ahead of the Cheltenham Festival, as JM Socials’ Jay Rahman and chefs Thomas and Kathryn Law take on the popular pub.

The trio have clear ambitions for the town centre venue – to protect its long-standing community spirit while sharpening its food and drink offer.

Thomas Law, formerly head chef at Prithvi and a long-standing member of the JM Socials group, will lead the kitchen with a focus on supplier-led menus, while Kathryn Law brings experience from several Cotswolds pubs and hotels, strengthening the venue’s culinary direction.

The news that The Tavern was closing in January 2026 after just 12 months of trading under new owners was reported on SoGlos in January 2026.

But now regulars can expect the return of The Tavern’s gastropub classics, alongside refreshed favourites including beef brisket with French dip, with new seasonal dishes being added to the menu to reflect Tom’s creative approach and commitment to local produce. Dishes include chicken schnitzel with garlic butter, taramasalata and hash browns, as well as chargrilled baby carrots with whipped feta and rocket pesto, as a few examples.

Tom Law said: ‘My wife and I have always loved The Tavern, so being part of bringing this much-loved venue back to life with Jay is incredibly special. We’re proud to work with local suppliers to ensure quality is at the forefront of everything we serve, while keeping the warm, welcoming spirit people know and love.’

Jay Rahman added: ‘JM Socials is proud to bring new energy and fresh ambition to one of the town’s most loved institutions. Reopening The Tavern is about returning this Cheltenham favourite to the heart of the community where it belongs.’

Behind the bar, the focus remains on independent producers, with rotating guest taps from DEYA, Lost and Grounded and Arbor, alongside Cotswold Lion, Goffs and HPA ales. Just Pressed cider features seasonally, while Guinness will continue as a staple pour.

Upstairs will offer a private chef’s table and large screens showing major international sport, including full coverage of the Cheltenham Festival.
