Gloucestershire athlete will compete for Team GB in Tokyo Olympics

Competing alongside Andy Murray in the rescheduled 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Cheltenham tennis player Dan Evans will be going for gold at this summer’s games.

Team GB has announced that one of six tennis players that will be competing in the rescheduled Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games will be Cheltenham-based Dan Evans.

Due to the pandemic, the 2020 Olympic Games were postponed and will now be taking place from Friday 23 July until Sunday 8 August 2021.

Dan will be competing in the men’s singles and doubles alongside two-time Olympic Champion Sir Andy Murray, who will be competing at his fourth Olympic Games this summer.

Other Team GB tennis stars to look out for include Heather Watson and Johanna Konta, who will both be competing in the women’s singles and doubles; as well as Neal Skupski.

Team GB’s Mark England said: ‘It’s a huge privilege to announce our tennis players for Team GB. The calibre of the team gets stronger with every games, and it is great to see a mix of returning and first time Olympians.’
