With its latest equipment line helping world-leading producers deliver better performing products with greater efficiency, Gloucestershire's TBS Engineering continues to bolster its position as a pioneer in global battery manufacturing in 2026.
The multi-national firm, headquartered at its main plant at Gloucester Business Park in Brockworth, has been a trailblazer in the industry for many years, serving to innovate, design and build battery assembly and plate manufacturing equipment for some of the sector's biggest producers.
Working with the likes of Clarios, East Penn and Exide, which supply batteries to the foremost original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) in the transportation, commercial, and industrial domains – including major car producers like Ford, Volkswagen, BMW, and Mercedes – TBS continues to drive production efficiency and enhanced battery performance for its clients through the innovation of its state-of-the-art technologies and machinery.
Its newest plate manufacturing line, ActivMat – developed in conjunction with industry partners through its TBS Advanced Energy Equipment Alliance – officially launched in 2024, and customers have been reaping the benefits of the new tech in the nearly two years since.
The new equipment, in particular its continuous paste mixer (CPM), has been described as 'transformative' by customers, delivering an increase in battery performance of up to 10 per cent, extended battery life, and a weight reduction, with up to 10 per cent less active material used.
The ActivMat line also improves the efficiency of the production process by reducing waste, delivering a cost saving for customers while helping to minimise their environmental footprint.
Flavia Grigore, head of the ActivMat line at TBS, said of the response from customers: 'Manufacturers have shown great interest in the CPM technology and are eagerly anticipating its deployment.
'Modern systems like the CPM are preferred over traditional, harder-to-control methods. Customers have been particularly impressed by its high shear capabilities, precise temperature control, and cost-saving advantages.

TBS is also embracing AI in the development of its new machinery, particularly for battery inspection. Recommended for use alongside traditional vision systems, its AI systems are trained to recognise patterns, adapt to variation, and maintain performance when there's a change in conditions, such as an increase in production speeds, improving overall reliability.
