One individual who's carved that path is Jack Peers, who started with the firm as an engineering apprentice, straight from leaving school, before becoming a skilled service technician, working both at the firm's Brockworth headquarters and travelling the world to service equipment for its global clients.
With TBS current recruiting for a service technician – a role that involves frequent international travel – SoGlos sits down with Jack to hear his journey from school leaver, to skilled engineer, along with his highlights of his job.
Jack, tell us about your role as a technician with TBS Engineering.
As a service technician at TBS Engineering, I am responsible for setting up, commissioning and testing machinery to ensure it meets our customers’ required standards for quality, performance and cycle time.
I work closely with customers both in-house and at sites across the world, supporting installation, testing and troubleshooting throughout the project.
What about your personal career journey – how did you come to work for TBS?
During my options years at school, I attended an engineering specialist school, which first sparked my interest in engineering.
After completing my GCSEs, I joined TBS through Gloucester Engineering Training, where I spent the next four years learning a wide range of engineering skills and working across different sections of the company and eventually started as a technician.
What do you enjoy most about your role as technician?
I really enjoy how every day is different, I’m always doing something or going somewhere new meaning I am never bored. Everyone in the department is very easy to get along with, which is handy when they’re your only company abroad!
What are the biggest benefits of working for TBS Engineering?
There are many opportunities for development as we work with many different departments, the more you’re willing to learn the better this job becomes.
