As one of the country's finest surviving Norman Era buildings, Tewkesbury Abbey offers an immersive experience where visitors can explore the world the Norman Conquest helped to create, from seeing a full-scale printed reproduction of the Bayeux Tapestry, reliving William the Conqueror's epic victory at the Battle of Hastings in 'Conquest', to seeing how that victory transformed daily life in Britain, from fashion and music, to faith and society in 'Kingdom'.
Part of the British Museum's nationwide programme, Bayeux Around Britain, supported by WorldQuant, the exhibition helps to demonstrate the Bayeux Tapestry's significance in British history – and tells the stories of some of the remarkable individuals which shaped Tewkesbury Abbey itself, and England's new way of life, such as Queen Matilda, Robert Fitzhamon, and Robert FitzRoy.

The exhibition is at Tewkesbury Abbey from Thursday 22 October 2026 until Sunday 11 July 2027, to coincide with the Bayeux Tapestry's return to Britain for the first time in nearly 1,000 years.
How to book 'From Conquest to Kingdom – The Bayeux Tapestry and Norman Heritage Trail' at Tewkesbury Abbey
There's no need to book in advance to see the exhibition, just visit Tewkesbury Abbey during its standard opening hours.
The exhibition is free and admission to the abbey is by voluntary donation, with suggested donations of £5 per person or £10 per family.
