Gloucester's brand-new creative craft studio and community space, Yarnwick Nook, officially welcomed its first crafters this September 2026.
SoGlos got a first look at how it is breathing new life into the area, and what's on offer in the cosy new studio that's already proving popular.
First look inside Yarnwick Nook
Designed to be cosy and welcoming, the interior design features calming colours like greens and creams, nature inspired details from leaf garlands to warm wood, and floor-to-ceiling windows that flood the space with natural light.
There are comfy chairs at each of the craft tables and materials laid out ready to get stuck into, while the shelves are lined with craft supplies of all kinds, from pots and paint, to self-contained kits, for visitors to choose from.
There's also a coffee bar where visitors can grab a hot drink and a slice of homemade cake to enjoy with their craft project, too.
With bookings already pouring in before the studio even opened, Yarnwick Nook was a hive of activity when it opened its doors for the first time on Saturday 12 September 2026.
From keen crafters, to people just popping by to grab a coffee and look around, the studio seems to be a hit with residents and visitors, with customers already booking for return visits and workshop places filling up fast.
Yarnwick Nook's founder, Lisa Yates, said: 'The opening weekend went so well... We had bookings before we opened, and more people popped in throughout the days. We had lots of love, especially from the local residents who are so happy to see the building in use.
'Following the weekend, we already have some returning customers booked in and our workshops are filling up nicely.
'It was so nice to see Yarnwick Nook turn into what we always hoped it would be.'
Crafts on offer at Yarnwick Nook
Yarnwick Nook offers a variety of craft workshops for visitors aged 16 and up, including decoupage, Indian block printing, linocut, mosaics, iris paper folding, and wax melts. Workshops last three and a half hours each and include all the materials required, as well as expert guidance to take participants from 'beginner to proud maker'.
The studio also offers a variety of drop-in craft sessions lasting an hour and a half, including crochet, cross-stitch, flower pressing, macrame and needle felting, as well as two-hour pottery painting sessions.
And there are dedicated kids crafts sessions specially designed for little hands, including colouring; rock, wooden shape, and plaster shape painting; and diamond art, with seasonal options on offer, too.
What's the story behind Yarnwick Nook?
Founder Lisa set up Yarnwick Nook after being made redundant from a high-level corporate role in the NHS.
A lifelong craft enthusiast, she took the opportunity to turn her dream of owning a craft studio into a reality, creating a cosy space where everyone can feel at home, to share the creativity and mindfulness she experiences from crafting with more people.
