While its Gloucester plant and head office serves as the core of its global operations, TBS Engineering also serves customers from hubs in Italy, the USA and Mexico, and it's set to open a plant in India this year, too.

Gloucester-based TBS Engineering is entering a new chapter this June 2026, with its acquisition by a global technology partner for the battery manufacturing industry.

The firm, which supplies state-of-the-art, automatic battery assembly equipment to manufacturers around the world, has been acquired by Austrian company Rosendahl Nextrom, from US-based industrial holding company Marmon Group.

TBS has hailed the acquisition as creating 'the greatest opportunity in battery manufacturing', with the companies' joint expertise set to provide a much-improved offering for its customers, suppliers and industry partners.

Founded in Gloucester in 1968, TBS Engineering is a global leader in its field, serving to innovate, design and build battery assembly and plate manufacturing equipment for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).

Boasting annual turnover of £50 million, the company employs more than 200 people across facilities in Italy, the USA, Mexico, China and its main plant at Gloucester Business Park in Brockworth, which serves as a hub for its worldwide operations.

Eastern Styria-based Rosendahl Nextrom is described as a global technology partner for production systems in the cable, wire, fibre optic and battery industries, providing machines and services for lead-acid and lithium-ion battery production through its BM-Rosendahl brand. It has around 900 employees and in 2025/26 will reach a turnover of around €220 million.

A post on LinkedIn from TBS Engineering, announcing the acquisition, said: 'While both brands will continue to focus on their core areas of expertise, together we will accelerate progress across the industry and create even greater value for battery manufacturers worldwide.

'This is not simply an acquisition. It is the beginning of a new chapter for battery manufacturing.'

Gerhard Jakopic, CEO of Rosendahl Nextrom, said: 'The acquisition of TBS marks a significant strategic step and underscores our clear commitment to the battery sector. It brings together two highly complementary companies with strong international relevance in their respective markets.'
