Cheltenham residents can lift the Boodles Cheltenham Gold Cup racing trophy when it tours local businesses for the first time ever, from February to March 2022.

Businesses in Cheltenham have been queuing up to take part in the inaugural Boodles Gold Cup Community Tour, from Friday 25 February to Sunday 13 March 2022.

Cafés, bars, restaurants, schools and sports clubs will all be visited by the famous racing trophy as it makes it way around the town, with local residents having the chance to have their photo taken with the prestigious Boodles Gold Cup.

The Gold Cup has been run and won in Cheltenham nearly every year since 1924, but holding the trophy is an honour usually reserved for the race winners.

‘We want people to build an association with the Gold Cup at a different kind of level. It means so much more to people if they can see it up close and even lift it up’, said Andre Klein, Cheltenham Racecourse’s community engagement manager.

‘It is the town of Cheltenham’s Gold Cup after all, and the people of the town should enjoy it more than anyone!’ he added.

Interest in hosting the cup as part of the inaugural Boodles Gold Cup Community Tour has been so strong that the racecourse had to hold a ballot to determine the itinerary.

Although the tour won’t be taking place every day, venues include Leckhampton Court Hospice, Bishops Cleeve School, Spirax Sarco, Domaine 16, Copa and The Suffolk Arms.
