A floatation centre, providing sensory deprivation whilst users float in water saturated with Epsom salts, is set to open in the Forest of Dean in the Autumn of 2018.

The centre, known as Float in the Forest, will be based around five minutes from Lydney on the Princess Royal Industrial Estate, between Whitecroft and Bream.

Users will be welcomed into the facility and shown to one of two private float rooms, which include a private shower and floating tank. A float session will last for around an hour, where users can get in and out of the tank as they please. Having two tanks on site makes Float in the Forest the largest floatation centre in Gloucestershire.

Float in the Forest’s co-founder, Shari Vandervelde told SoGlos: ‘The location for the site is lovely, although it’s an industrial estate, it opens out onto woodland so users are on the edge of nature. It means they can leave the facility continuing that blissful feeling as they step out into the woodland.’

When asked who would benefit from floating, Shari explained that they have a very broad market: ‘The Epsom salts in the water make you incredibly buoyant, so there’s no pressure anywhere. It’s perfect for people who have back pain, people suffering from things like fibromyalgia, those recovering from sports injuries or people who want to relax their mind and switch off for an hour.’

After a float session, visitors will be invited to sit in a relaxation centre before heading back to everyday life! An exact opening date has not yet been confirmed, but it’s hoped the site will be open by the end of Summer or start of Autumn in 2018. Other facilities such as massage will eventually be offered at the centre, too.
