National Waterways Museum Gloucester is a great place to socialise and meet new people.

With the cost-of-living crisis weighing heavily on families throughout Gloucestershire, it can be hard to find budget-friendly activities to keep everyone entertained throughout the year.

Recognising how important quality time with family is, a ticket to the National Waterways Museum in Gloucester allows free return visits all year round.

Packed with everything for a fun and educational day out, the museum offers families the chance to connect with nature and learn about the native wildlife of Gloucestershire waterways, as well as other activities designed to engage everyone from children to grandparents.

Tickets to the museum cost £8.50 per adult, £5 for children aged six to fifteen and it's free for under-fives. Family tickets can also be purchased for £22, for a further saving. A ticket purchase automatically qualifies visitors to free entry for 12 months.

The scheme is perfect for when you're hunting for school holiday entertainment, with a variety of new activities available and with many of them drop-in sessions, there's no need to book.

If you're looking to boost your learning, educational Explorer Saturday sessions take place on the first Saturday of the month and are run by the Canal & River Trust Explorers team from 10am until 2pm.

Visitors can enjoy a whole host of wildlife based activities and chat with the team who look after the waterways resident animals.

Even better, it's also the same day as Gloucester Quays Orchard Street Market, so there is plenty to do and see, even once you leave the museum.

National Waterways Museum Gloucester is also great if you find yourself wrestling with toddlers during term time, with under-fives getting free access and plenty of areas throughout for play.

There's equipment to play dress up; a reading corner; a place for arts and crafts; and construction blocks for coordination skill building, as well as the wonders from the natural world to soak in outdoors.

Open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am until 4pm, National Waterways Museum Gloucester is the perfect place to socialise and meet new people and you can stay for as little or as long as you'd like.

A café selling drinks, snacks and tasty treats is available during opening times but families are welcome to bring packed lunches to enjoy with a hot drink or food item purchased from the onsite eatery, too.
