Cirencester’s Barn Theatre has revealed that its first production will be a powerful adaptation of The Secret Garden, directed by Dominic Shaw and performed this spring.
Set to run from Friday 16 March to Sunday 15 April 2018, the eagerly-awaiting production marks the culmination of three years’ planning, rebuilding and development for the 200-seat Cirencester venue.
Theatre goers can look forward to a new adaptation of the Tony award-winning musical, based on the 1911 book written by Frances Hodgson Burnett, with a script and lyrics by Pulitzer prize-winning playwright Marsha Norman, and featuring an enchanting score by Lucy Simon.
Speaking about the production, director Dominic Shaw said: ‘I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to direct a new interpretation of The Secret Garden. I plan to completely reimagine the piece and make it more accessible for a contemporary audience.’
The Barn Theatre’s artistic director, Iwan Lewis added: ‘We are delighted to announce The Secret Garden as our first production. Dominic’s fearless approach really chimes with what we’re trying to achieve and we’re delighted to have him on board.’
Tickets for The Secret Garden are currently on sale, with prices ranging from £14 to £28.
