Key workers in Cheltenham and Gloucester can get unlimited free e-scooter rides from Zwings during the second Coronavirus lockdown in England.

NHS and emergency services workers can sign up on the Zwings website to receive a code entitling them to free e-scooter hire until Wednesday 2 December 2020, in a bid to help support frontline workers in the community.

Equipped with self-cleaning copper handles, which are said to render 99.98 per cent of bacteria and viruses harmless, the e-scooters provide a sustainable and socially distanced alternative to public transport.

Zwings is working with Gloucestershire County Council to add more rental locations across the county, including more parking bays close to NHS facilities and key commuter routes.

Founder and CEO of Zwings, Joe Lewin, said: ‘It is part of Zwings’ core ethos to support our communities in Gloucestershire during this second lockdown in a hyper localised manner.

‘We recognise the important role our e-scooters play in supporting residents and key workers to travel at a social distance but also to help relieve stress from a hard day at work. We are collaborating closely with local representatives in each respective town or city to tailor our service to best support NHS and emergency workers.’

Cabinet member for planning and environment at Gloucestershire County Council, Councillor Nigel Moor, said: ‘Zwings provides a way for our residents to travel around urban areas while staying apart, reducing congestion and emissions, and improving air quality at the same time. We have built a positive relationship with Zwings as they continue to rise to the challenges of introducing a new mode of transport in our area.’
